Doggie Tales
I love Dogs.. Small, shabby , big and baddy.. no matter if they smell bad or lick or bark endlessly..I just love Dogs.
When I was 7, my Nanaji gifted me my first pooch, Miki. He was a white and grey Oslo and was super cute . He was 4 years old and was my best friend. I remember reciting all my poems, and numeric tables to him, practicing my singing and showing my new books and crayons to him. And then I lost him..
Then when I was 13, my parents gifted my brother and me our second baby doggie (ok pup!). I named him Geejoe after Harsh Chaya's character name in the serial Tara. Yup, I used to find that guy very cute and My brother agreed with the name. Geejoe was naughty.. and cute. When he was a pup, I used to take care of him, even clean his poop (there was a day allocation rooster between my bro and me for poop cleaning)..though I still don't know why he used to shit more than usual on my assigned days. Anyway, when he grew old, he changed loyalty. he became my brother's best friend. They both had dog instincts after all ..lol.
And then I moved out. For studies, my B-school and then even job. Never could afford due to time and commitment a pet of my own. But I always found some doggie to dote on. Whether it was my friend's lab Simba or this stray in my parking lot Kuttu Singh.
Yesterday, as I was buying momo from a stall, I saw this very pretty young lady walking with a bag. She stopped by me. Took her bag out. There was a milk tetrapak, one plastic bowl and water bottle. She called a fat but cute stray around and poured him some milk with water to drink. I started talking with her. She said, during her evening walks she feeds milk & biscuits to a dozen stray like "motu". She stays in Mumbai all alone as a Paying Guest. She cannot keep a pet but that does not stop her from spreading her love to other doggies on the road who cannot afford a master. So she plays with them, feed them and sometimes even get them treated at the vet.
I am inspired. And I am going to definitely find some dog to share my affection.
Wagging my tail with love,
M
